Polychrome
The tab strip was never designed for how people actually browse. Once Chrome learned to unload background tabs on its own, keeping many tabs open stopped being a vice — and the thin horizontal strip stopped being adequate. Polychrome moves the whole problem sideways: a full sidebar of tabs and groups, docked to the left of the browser window.
The sidebar treats tabs as a collection worth curating. Group them, archive them, build a structure you recognize, and keep the things you return to within reach. A Chrome extension, popped out into its own window.
